Cookie Policy
Last updated: 27 October 2026
This page describes what this website stores in your browser and which outside services your browser contacts. It is short because the site does very little.
In short
- The site sets no cookies of its own and uses no tracking, analytics or advertising tags.
- One value is kept in your browser's local storage so that the notice at the top of each page stays closed once you have dismissed it.
- Typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, and the contact form passes through the relay service formsubmit.co.
What is stored on your device
When you press OK on the site notice, the page saves a key named wh-notice with the value 1 in your browser's local storage. It stays on your device, is not sent to our server and is not used to recognise you elsewhere. If you clear your site data, the notice simply appears again.
Outside services
Google Fonts. Each page asks Google's servers for the Shippori Mincho and Noto Sans JP typefaces. This request reveals your IP address and browser details to Google, as any request for a file hosted elsewhere does. We do not control what Google does with it.
formsubmit.co. Only when you send the contact form does your browser contact formsubmit.co, which forwards the message to our mailbox. It is a separate service with its own practices, and it may use cookies or similar technology that we cannot see or control. The Privacy Policy explains what the form sends.
Maps. The "View on Map" links open Google Maps in a new tab. Nothing is sent to Google Maps unless you click one.
Controlling what is stored
You can clear or block site data at any time in your browser's settings. The site works whether or not storage is allowed; the only difference is that the notice may reappear.
Cookies and local storage: what is the difference?
A cookie is a small piece of text that a website asks your browser to keep and to send back with every later request, which is why cookies are the usual tool for recognising a returning visitor across pages and sites. Local storage is similar in that it lives in your browser, but it is read only by the page itself and is never attached to requests automatically. We chose local storage for the single setting we keep precisely because nothing needs to travel to a server for the notice to stay closed.
Why there is no consent menu
Consent menus exist to let visitors accept or refuse optional tracking. This site has no optional tracking to offer, so a menu with Accept and Decline buttons would suggest a choice that does not exist. The notice therefore has a single button, and its only effect is to hide the notice.
How to check this yourself
In most desktop browsers you can open the developer tools, look at the Application or Storage panel and inspect the cookies and local storage listed for this site. You should find no cookies from us and one local-storage entry named wh-notice after you have closed the notice. The Network panel will show the requests made to Google's font servers when a page loads. If you find something that does not match this page, please write to us so that we can correct either the site or the text.
Other devices and browsers
Because local storage belongs to one browser on one device, closing the notice on your phone does not close it on your laptop, and a private browsing window starts afresh each time. That is expected behaviour and needs nothing from you.
If this changes
Should we ever add analytics, advertising measurement or other cookies, we will describe them on this page and in the site notice before they are switched on, and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
